Quarterly the children attend several days' excursions. 4 students are supported annually in getting higher education. Quarterly 90% of the children's parents attended lectures on children's upbringing and health. In the Roma day care centre 5 times a week 100 Roma children come to have "reading-writing-calculating" lessons. 5 days a week 10 children from disadvantaged families attend the Centre. Annually 120 Roma children take part in summer day camp. Annual 120 Roma children take part in the event ‘Clean Heart'. Once per week 120 Roma children attend lessons on prevention of HIV/Aids, drugs, alcohol and smoking and sex education. 2 times a week a child doctor gives consultations. Once a quarter parents, teen boys and girls attend lessons about the consequences of early pregnancies and marriages and how to prevent it. Annual 80 Roma families in Kriwoy Rog are provided with humanitarian aid. Home visits are organized 1-2 times a year by a Favor social worker.
Target Group:
Underprivileged (Roma) children (orphan students of the local vocational school living in the hostel; children from large families, single-parent families, families where parents are either drug addicts or abuse alcohol and children registered by the local police as a risk group).
Problem Program Addresses:
Ukraine has been confronted with not only the collapse of a political and economic system, but the abrupt cancellation of the social contract, which had guaranteed a moderate level of economic and social security in return for acceptance of the political status quo. An increased number of children grow up without perspective. Their families lack not only the financial means to provide a good education for their children but also often lack the possibility to buy school material, food variety and necessary medicines. An additional problem is alcohol abuse in many families. The state does not provide (enough) social assistance.
Purpose:
Beneficiaries have become more self-confident and sustainable. Literacy and level of education among Roma children increased.
Main Activities:
Quarterly, material aid is given to 50 vulnerable children from Kriwoy Rog. 10 children receive a warm meal daily.10 children receive organized assistance in homework, games and crafts, and receive psychological aid daily.50 children attend music/drawing/sport school monthly. Quarterly, excursions are organized for the children. Once a year, a 3-week summer camp is organized which is weekly attended by 50 children. Yearly, 3 children are provided with necessary means to study at college/institute. Quarterly training seminars concerning children upbringing are organized for parents. |
