Achievements Until Now:
DAI and IAS have a drilling rig working in South Sudan, by now more than 15,000 people are accessing clean water form boreholes.
Target Groups:
People with limited access to water and sanitation in rural villages of South Sudan.
Problem Program Addresses:
Lack of fresh water supply inside homes causes: Water borne diseases and infections increase the death rates especially among children. Mothers have to walk long distances in order to fetch contaminated water to their homes. Lack of proper sanitation causes a lot of health problems to the villagers. Improper disposal of waste increases the disease incidence rates. Lack of indoor latrines causes a real inconvenience especially to female beneficiaries, in addition to their lost dignity. Inadequate living conditions negatively impact individuals and families and decrease their productivity.
Purpose:
Most of the people in this area do not have access to clean or adequate water and are exposed to incidences of water borne diseases. On the ground we found that the water sources are limited and not enough for a lot of people at the same time the number of returnees is increasing.
Main Activities:
Water well drilling. Create health awareness among targeted community. Train and encourage people on building safe latrines using local materials. |
