Project/Sector Name:
Child care and development - Rehabilitation of street children, Sudan
Partner(s)
El Shaddai Organisation, Boys Hope Centre
Geographical area:
Wau and Khartoum
Start Sector :
2003
Achievements Until Now:
(Wau) 25 children are being hosted in transitional homes for children and given the basic provisions like food and medical care. They attend school and are spiritually and socially cared for, (Khartoum) 47 boys are living in the centre and all of them are supported to attend school. The centre also serves as a drop in centre for boys from poor families. The project has a chicken farm and a welding training programme.
Target Group:
72 former street children
Problem Program Addresses:
Due to extreme poverty and the civil war in Sudan, many children have ended up living on the streets. Most of them have no contact with their parents or extended family.
Purpose:
Street children and orphans in Sudan are rehabilitated and integrated into society.
Main Activities:
72 children are supported in a transitional home (Wau) and a rehabilitation centre (Khartoum) where they are provided accommodation, food, clothes, medical care, education fees and social services throughout the year. 45-75 hardcore children living around the "Boys Hope Centre" in Haj Yousef are provided with meals and showers on a weekly basis, throughout the year. Welding, furniture making and vocational training is provided for 25 children who will then be better equipped to find a job or to start a (small) income generating project.
