Achievements Until Now:
In 2003, a sponsorship program for elderly started in Vladikavkaz. The program has grown and today, more than 400 elderly receive support on a regular base. The Elderly Care program was extended with support to elderly in Tula region.
Target Group:
Poor and lonely elderly in Tula and Vladikavkaz who match the selection criteria set by the projects.
Problem Program Addresses:
The living standard of most elderly people is extremely low. Local authorities in Russia are not able to take care of the socially neglected people due to lack of funding. Pensioners spend their income on public utilities and medicines and from the minimum left, they can buy food and clothes. Pensioners are the ones who suffer most of the consequences of the market economy.
Purpose:
To provide elderly with material, psychological and social support and to help to improve their living and social conditions.
Main Activities:
Social workers visit the elderly people and provide them with psycho-social care. Meetings are organized for the elderly. Distribution of material support takes place.
