Achievements Until Now: Initiatives in capacity building have targeted 7 partner organizations, their representatives and those of the beneficiaries. Capacity building involved training (project cycle management, gender, financial management,strategic planning, lobby and advocacy, leadership and governance, participatory development, fundraising among others), coaching especially on financial management, reporting, exchange visits among partners and programs, advisory services in policy development (strategic planning, personnels etc) and research involving impact studies and evaluations. All these has culminated in improved human resource management (policies), increased networking with other like-minded organizations, improved resource mobilization and involvement of beneficiaries in decision-making processes among others.
Target Group:
DAI-Kenya is currently working with 7 partners. 6 of these are based in the rural areas, while one works in a slum area in an urban setting and another one works in a peri-urban area. Capacity building activities targets the partner representatives who include members of the boards, project management committees, project staff and beneficiary committees.
Problem Program Addresses:
DAI-Kenya capacity building program addresses needs within human resource management, organizational and institutional development that are identified in conjuction with the partners annually. Addressing these capacity needs is paramount in improving delivery of services and empowering beneficiaries to take a central role in their own development.
Purpose:
The purpose of DAI capacity building is to improve the effectiveness of partners in areas of human resource management, organizational development and institutional development in order to enable them respond better to the needs of the poor, as well as empowering the beneficiaries to meangfully engage in development work.
Main Activities:
DAI capacity building focuses on different activities ranging from training (imparting technical skills), coaching (one-on-one mentoring), research (needs assessment, impact studies and baseline surveys), exchange visits (sharing experiences, expertise and information), facilitation by outside consultancies to solve specific challenges to advisory services (developing systems, mission/vision, strategic plans, policies etc). Each partner is assessed individually and a specific capacity building program is developed in consultation with the respective partner. |
