Geographical Area:
Eastern province of Kenya within the districts of Mwingi and Makueni respectively. The Turkana water and sanitation project is situated in north western part of Kenya.

Achievements Until Now:
More than 20,000 people improved their access to water, and about 6.100 are using improved sanitation facilities. New hygiene practices, such as washing hands reduced to half the number of water-borne illnesses.
Target Group:
Rural Households with limited access to clean water and sanitation.
Problem Program Addresses:
Health of households, particularly those with pregnant women and children, affected by water borne diseases, caused by poor hygiene and limited access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
Purpose:
To improve the health conditions and self-reliance among target groups by increasing awareness and knowledge on the prevention of water-borne diseases and improved access to clean water and sanitation.
Main activities:
Rain water harvesting. Hygiene and Health Care promotion. Protecting water catchments, planting trees, venturing into energy saving methods and better ways of disposing plastic bags. Capacity Building for improving community mobilization and local governance. Building partnerships for social learning. |
