Achievements Until Now:
DAI Ethiopia was involved in the implementation of water and sanitation projects since 1994, mainly in Fitche area, Kuyyuu, Werejarso and Awassa districts. About 104,705 people gain access to clean water and improved their health, especially on children and pregnant women who are the major victims of unclean water. Furthermore, women saved a lot of time which was spent on fetching water. On average between 2-3 hours/day of the time of the women or girls is saved every day. Health awareness training and construction of pit latrine is promoted in the communities.
Target Groups:
Rural families with limited access to clean water in Fitche, Shashogo and Awassa areas.
Problem Program Addresses:
The project target area has acute shortage of potable water and water borne diseases because of insufficient hygiene and sanitation.
Purpose:
Improve health and quality of life of the target population, with new and/or enhanced drink water sources, hygiene and sanitation promotion.
Main Activities:
Organizing and training water committees. Wells construction and pump installation. Training of target group on hygiene and sanitation, including the prevention of HIV/AIDS. |
