Achievements Until Now:
From 2010 there are 13984 beneficiaries who now have access to clean water at home. 10902 beneficiaries now have access to improved sanitation, and more than 16882 beneficiaries have been trained on health practices.
Target Groups:
The program will serve the poorest of the poor in these villages with extremely limited access to clean water and sanitation facilities, especially those women head of households. Health awareness sessions and environmental trainings are conducted during house visits and in seminars addressing entire village communities.
Problem Program Addresses:
Sickness and disease resulting from the lack of access to clean water and sanitation facilities, lost dignity and basic human rights, extreme inadequate living conditions are the main problems addressed by the program. Unawareness of the basic principles of hygiene, contaminated water and lack of proper sanitation and improper disposal of waste are the main reasons behind the spread of diseases and the rising mortality rate especially among children.
Purpose:
Better and healthier living conditions are made available to villagers who suffer from extreme poverty and inadequate living conditions. Better quality of life for poor families in Upper Egypt over a period of three years.
Main Activities:
Clean water connections are installed inside homes. Local housing committees facilitate the construction of environmental friendly latrines. Health & hygiene education is provided through community health workers' home visits and village seminars. Sustainable environmental care is enhanced in target communities. |
