Project/Sector Name:
Elderly Care, Egypt
Partner(s):
Kasr el Dobara Evangelical Church
Geographical Area:
Menia Governorate - Upper Egypt
Start Sector:
2003
Achievements Until Now:
The living conditions of 175 elderly people in 12 villages have improved through provision of food, clothing, medical, social and moral support.
Target Groups:
175 poor, lonely elderly are offered care they need through periodic visits, food and clothing provision, medical support and recreational activities. Elderly are also encouraged to integrate into their communities.
Problem Program Addresses:
Seclusion, loneliness, malnutrition, financial inadequacy and tough living conditions are the main challenges the elderly in poor communities face, especially those who can no more contribute to their families and society. Social structure does not cover the elderly and pensions - normally ranging around € 10 per month - are entirely insufficient to meet their needs.
Purpose:
To assist the poor and elderly so they have increased chances of enjoying healthy and dignified days instead of struggling through their days.
Main Activities:
Food items are supplied daily to every elderly. Periodic visits are paid to check on the elderly in their homes. Periodic medical check-up and medical analysis are offered to the poor elderly people. All sick elderly people receive proper treatment. The elderly participate in social life and are encouraged to integrate into the society. They are provided care. Volunteers and project staff visit the elderly at home and beneficiaries are invited to church services and social activities. Clothing and sanitary items are distributed regularly. The elderly attend social activities on a weekly basis organized by the church. Twice a year, a daytrip is organized. Elderly people live in an appropriate shelter.
