Achievements Until Now:
In 2010 the Water & Sanitation project has been implemented in the villages of Pendavinj and Rov where approx. 355 households were equipped with a water meter and water pipes inside their houses and are receiving health education, hygiene, and environment for a better life in the village. 1775 beneficiaries were provided with improved water and received trainings about hygiene, health care, HIV/AIDS and environmental care.
Target Group:
People living in remote rural villages with very limited access to clean water.
Problem Program Addresses:
Since 1990 less is done for the water systems in rural areas of Albania, at the present time these water systems are collapsing, supplying very low quantity and quality of water.
Lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities and bad hygiene are the main reasons for waterborne diseases. Lack of organizational skills within the target group.
Purpose:
Health conditions and self-reliance of communities in the South East of Albania structurally improved. Reduction of water borne and eye diseases. Increase access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation.
Main Activities:
Raising awareness in basic health care and hygiene. Improving capacity of target group in organizational skills. Installation and maintenance of sustainable drinking water supplies. Environmental campaigns and seminars to improve waste management. Water & sanitation committees in the villages are coached in the implementation of their activity plans through trainings, exchange visits and demonstrations. Target groups receive training from the water & sanitation committees about water management and waste disposals.
