Party for Orphans & Vulnerable Children
Fast Forward, a young adults group from Crossroads Church in Randhart, Alberton decided that they needed to become more involved with those less fortunate. The group chose to partner with Dorcas Aid, & St Francis Care Centre to reach out to 30 Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC) from the informal settlements of Ramaphosa and Joe Slovo settlements in Boksburg. The children's ages range from 10-14 years.

Fast Forward decided to give the children a party that they would never forget. The children arrived at Crossroads Church early Saturday morning on the 6th September to a warm welcome from Fast Forward and lively background music. The children were given party packs and were able to enjoy a variety of activities from bouncing around on jumping castles to watching animated movies, playing pinball soccer and showing off their dancing moves to popular music. Against this backdrop of fun, the children had their faces painted in a variety of colours and characters from spider man to lion faces and even the South African flag. They enjoyed candy floss, cakes and had borewors rolls for lunch. Finally at the end of the day before the exhausted children waved goodbye they received one last gift; the girls were each presented with a teddy bear and the boys were each given a soccer ball.
The young adults from Fast Forward had a fantastic time and felt that they made a difference in the lives of these less fortunate children and they have committed to do more for them in the future.
These children are being assisted by Dorcas Aid and their partner St Francis Care Centre on an ongoing basis. The children have been identified as being in special need through a Home Based Care Programme which cares for those affected & infected by HIV/AIDS. Dorcas Aid supports the children through payment of school fees, school uniforms, supplying them with food parcels and referrals to clinics.
