Dorcas Aid International is a relief and
development agency with its Head Quarters in the Netherlands. We operate in
more than 20 countries in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Middle East,
Eastern and Southern Africa.Dorcas
operates by funding more than 100 projects of local partners - a Christian
church or aid organization - that helps the poor in their community. The
beneficiaries of the projects are the really poor, the marginalised and
oppressed, with special attention given to women and children.
We give support in four ways:
·Structural
development projects: support to help local communities become self-sustaining
and less dependent on foreign aid. These projects focus on five specific areas:
Agriculture, water supply, health care, housing, and income generating projects.
·Social
projects: a helping hand to those that are desperately poor and vulnerable,
giving them food and clothing.
·Sponsorship:donors ('sponsors') pay a monthly
amount of money for a particular child, family or 'grandparent.
·Relief and rehabilitation: to lessen the effects of disasters (both
man-made and natural) by providing food, clothing and medical assistance;
refugees are assisted in resettling.
Tasks:
The position calls for a person to work closely
with the Regional Director Southern Africa undertaking a wide variety of tasks
including:
·partner evaluations for both
existing and potential partners,
·accompanying staff on project visits in South Africa, Mozambique,
Lesotho and Zimbabwe,
·produce various reports,
·conduct research
·assist with partner capacity building and training interventions, and
·the development of a
fundraising strategy to raise funds locally.
Characteristics:
In addition to the skill set above a Dorcas Aid
volunteer must be committed to the aims and objectives of the organisation,
have a combination of Christian qualities; have patience and a
caring attitude, a spirit of love and concern, and a desire to share Christ in
practical ways.
Requirements:
·Experience working in an international
nonprofit organisation
·Bachelor's degree in related field(for example: development aid)
·Understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes
·Proficiency in financial
management/budget planning and financial oversight
·English language skills with
proven report writing skills
The ability to facilitate workshops and training seminars
Experience in fundraising.
Volunteers will be required to provide their own
travel expenses to and from South Africa, medical aid cover and be able to pay
their living expenses. Dorcas Aid will provide suitable accommodation for the
duration of the contract and accident insurance.
