The Dorcas Blue Bucket Campaign is a practical and simple way for the public to become involved in helping the poorest community members.
Why the blue bucket campaign? South Africa has millions of families that are unable to put food on their tables. The blue Bucket campaign is one way that Dorcas is partnering with others to alleviate suffering and hunger.
How does the blue bucket campaign work?
Dorcas Aid is calling on businesses, schools, churches and individuals to partner with them to make a difference for the poor.
Partners fill 20lt Buckets supplied by Dorcas Aid with non perishable foods items. The partners then identify their own projects where the buckets can be distributed.
Dorcas is responsible for the marketing and promotion of this campaign and only asks that 20% of the filled buckets be returned to them for distribution within their own relief and development projects.
In 2007, 1 300 buckets were distributed by business, schools and individuals to the poor.
Success Stories:
Over selected long weekends, members of the Automobile Association support road safety on the Van Reenens Pass in KZN. A school in a poor community was identified by the AA and the organisation filled 100 buckets of food for a poor community. Over a long weekend in 2007 the AA distributed a bucket to each child from the school to take home to their families.
