History
The organisation began in 1980 as a small group of people in the Netherlands assisting the poor in the communist block. Dorcas Aid International (hereafter referred to as DAI) operates worldwide providing development, social and relief aid through over 200 projects in twenty countries. The beneficiaries of the projects are the poor and vulnerable with special attention given to women and children. DAI works in several countries in Southern Africa, Eastern Africa, North Africa, Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the former Soviet Union. The headquarters of DAI is located in Andijk, the Netherlands.
Dorcas Aid South Africa
Is an independent South African organisation situated in Florida, Gauteng. It is responsible with it's field office and partners to raise financial support for the programmes in Southern Africa, It is registered as a Public Benefit Organisation: (PBO) 18/11/13/2498 and as a Non Profit Organisation: (NPO) 012-143. It is a member of Dorcas Aid International which is registered as a foundation in the Netherlands.
Objectives - Alleviation of poverty through sustainable development.
- Rendering of emergency aid in areas of natural disaster and man-made hostility, where possible as
part of, or in combination with, rehabilitation and reconciliation programmes.
- Rendering of social care to the most vulnerable people.
Strategy:
Dorcas accomplishes these goals through partnerships with local organisations. Dorcas provides financial support, material support and technical support. Dorcas supports development programmes in the area of basic needs whilst building the capacity of its partner organisations. ISO 9001:2000 Certified
In May 2007, DAI, including her field offices and Donor Organisations, received the ISO certification (International Standards Organisation) ISO 9001:2000. This proves that DAI operates in an efficient and effective way to reach its objectives. DAI hopes that by having this certification it will assist the organisation to a higher level of expertise in serving its beneficiaries.
