Every day new leprosy cases are detected, although the burden of leprosy continues to decline globally. Last year more than 228 thousand people were diagnosed with leprosy in 2010 and Sudan is one of the few countries that reported more than 1000 new cases.

Extra households benefitted from food aid in Kenya Wednesday, 18 January 2012
Food packages including maize, beans and cooking oil have been distributed to 1,360 households during the last 3 months. 160 more households received food than was initially planned. In total almost 10,000 people benefitted from the food aid, including child-headed households, disabled-headed household and people living with HIV/AIDS. Students tested for HIV in Ethiopia Thursday, 12 January 2012
Recently 348 students underwent HIV voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) in Ethiopia. This VCT was part of an HIV/AIDS campaign held in three government schools. Million Lemma, counseling and education officer, says about the project: ‘It provides students with an opportunity to learn and accept their HIV status in a confidential environment with counseling and referral for ongoing emotional support and medical care'.
